Are Yosemite Camping Reservations Necessary?


The Yosemite National Park is one of the most famous national parks within the entire United States. It is based in California, and the most widely visited are of the park is the 7 miles that make up Yosemite Valley. One of the most popular inquiries about Yosemite is in regards to Yosemite camping reservations and whether or not they are necessary in order to ensure that the individuals that are visiting the area are able to get a spot in which to camp. In order to understand whether or not they are necessary or even possible in some cases, and where the camp sites are situated, we must look more in depth at the camp grounds that Yosemite boasts to all those that are interested in staying in the national park over night.

There are thirteen popular sites for camping within the Yosemite National Park. Individuals are able to make Yosemite camping reservations for seven of these sites. However, reservations cannot be made for these sites more than five months in advance. For the remaining camping spot sites, reservations are not necessary. Rreservations are essential for certain periods of the year, especially during the months between April and September. While only up to seven of the available spots can be considered for Yosemite camping reservations, the rest of the spots are given away at a first come, first serve basis. For many people, it will be disappointing to get there after noon which is when most of these sites are filled up by. However, beginning later this year in 2007, the window of time that individuals will have to place Yosemite camping reservations will increase from 5 months ahead of time to being able to place reservations six months ahead of time for planned trips for individuals or families.
